Reward offered for Teresa Butler

NEW MADRID - A $5,000 reward is being offered for the safe return missing Risco woman.

The New Madrid County Sheriff Terry Stevens announced Thursday the reward for Teresa Butler’s return. This reward is being offered through the Carole Sund/Carrington Foundation.

The reward fund was established by the parents of Carole Sund. Sund, her daughter, Juli Sund, and Silvina Pelosso were the three women sightseers who were missing and later found murdered near Yosemite National Park in February 1999.

At the request of the FBI, Sund’s parents, Francis and Carole Carrington, posted rewards both for their safe return and for information leading to the whereabouts of their rental car. The Carringtons believed the posting of these rewards and the media attention they received, contributed to the car being located and gave them the first break in their case.

“They were thankful that they had the financial means to offer these rewards and it’s because of this that they have started ‘The Carole Sund/Carrington Foundation.’ This foundation was established to assist families such as the family of Teresa Butler, who are in similar circumstances as the Carringtons in that Teresa is a missing person,” according to the news release issued by Stevens.

According to the Foundation, reward money can make a difference because the Foundation’s reward money has already assisted in the location of nine missing persons and the apprehension of 29 murder suspects and three kidnappers of young children. To date the Foundation has paid a total of $175,000 in rewards to citizens.

Butler, 35, who was found to be missing from her Risco home on the morning of Jan. 25. Her husband, Dale Butler, discovered their two children, ages 2 and 4, alone in the family home on County Road 241, also known as Eight Ditch Road, just off Highway 62 on the outskirts of Risco.

No sign of forced entry were found although some items were believed missing from the home.
Butler is described as five-feet, seven-inches in height, weighing approximately 109 pounds, with brown eyes and hair.
